MEET A CELEBRITY AT GULF COAST MEDICAL CENTER December 7, 2010

Jared Fogle, of Subway fame, will visit GulfCoastMedicalCenter on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. You can meet Jared, and even see his famous pants, in the Metro Lobby.

He will be sharing a few words of wisdom and will take questions and answers from the audience.

Jared’s visit will kick-off the Lee County Start! Heart Walk weekend. Come get inspired and sample some heart healthy snacks from Subway.

Subway is the national sponsor of the American Heart Association Heart Walk and Lee Memorial Health System is the local Inspire Change Cause sponsor of the Heart Walk.

The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation’s No.1 and No.3 killers, claim nearly 870,000 lives a year.

Visit www.leecountyheartwalk.kintera.org to receive information about the Dec. 11 Lee County Start! Heart Walk, which will be held at 9 a.m. at CentennialPark in Fort Myers, and thank you in advance for helping to ensure everyone is aware of the activities planned for that day.

Join Lee Memorial Health System in the Start! Walking Challenge

Lee Memorial Health System is again partnering with the American Heart Association’s Start! campaign—a fitness initiative that challenges employees and local companies to participate in workplace walking programs. Are you and your company up for the challenge?

From Oct. 4 through Nov. 12, our employees will be logging the miles they walk. We challenge all local businesses, communities and organizations to recruit your team and track your mileage. By joining this program, you encourage a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of heart disease and stroke. Judged on the average number of miles walked per employee, the winning team will be announced on Dec. 11 at the Lee County Start! Heart Walk in downtown Fort Myers. At that time, the traveling trophy will be passed to the new winner to keep until the next year’s event.

Start! was created to raise awareness that walking, even for as little as 30 minutes per day, can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association, through this national campaign, is calling on all employers and leaders to create a culture of physical activity and health through walking. As a participant in this program, Lee Memorial Health System welcomes your competition.

Participants log times, distances and daily meals and snacks through www.mystartonline.org. Paper tracker forms are also available. If your company is interested in competing in this challenge, contact Lead Organizer Bridgett Ashford at bridgett.ashford@fowlerwhite.com.
