BAYSHORE FIRE NEEDS YOUR HELP December 1, 2010

More than 25 years ago, when Bayshore Fire Rescue was exclusively a volunteer fire department they saw a need within their community to help less fortunate families provide Christmas for their children. They would drive around the community with Santa on the fire truck delivering Christmas presents to the children.  In those days the efforts were focused on the area known as Seminole Campground as that was the area of greatest concentration of families in need. Today efforts are focused on providing Christmas gifts for underprivileged children to open on Christmas and food gifts to help sustain the families.

The recent changes in the economy and unemployment have spurred the growth and reach even farther. Today the range of assistance covers as far east as Alva and Lehigh Acres and as far west as Cape Coral, south into the City of Fort Myers and of course North Fort Myers.  Last year as the reach expanded south of the river into East Fort Myers and Tice, it seemed appropriate to change the name of what had been known as Seminole Christmas. The name was changed to Bayshore Rescue’s Christmas, but Bayshore Fire Rescue couldn’t do it without the help of some very generous supporters located around LeeCounty.

For the year 2010 support has been received from The staff of Gulfcoast Emergency Room, 21st Century Oncology, Studio 2 Hair Salon in North Fort Myers, Gordon’s Food Service, the office of Dr. Susan Hogan, DDS, New Hope Christian Church, and private individuals who care.

Anyone wishing to make donations in the form of new clothes and toys, non-perishable foods, or monetary gifts or gift cards can contact Theresa at Bayshore Fire Rescue at (239)543-3443 or items can be dropped off at:

Lamb of God church is located in Estero. Last year we fed 5,800 people in the 5 county area.  This years event will be held on November 25th.  Area volunteers are encourgaged to help through food preparation, delivery and clean up and then are invited to stay for fellowship and enjoy the holiday meal with their families.

Here are some of the highlights of what we were able to accomplish together in 2009:

436 turkeys were roasted and served

Over 10,000 pounds of side dishes inclduing mashed and sweet potatoes, stuffing, green beans and gravy were prepared and served.

Over 5,800 thanksgiving meals were prepared and delivered to families in Lee, Collier, Charlotte and Hendry counties.

Over 400 volunteers participated and contributed more than 2,000 volunteer hours.

Over 100 groups and individuals contrubuted financially to the effort.

To date, we still need volunteers to help with driving.  We also need volunteers for food preparation (we start preparing foods on Sunday night and work all the way through Thursday.)  We also need help with donations of breads and desserts (pies)

Pies, turkeys and hams will benefit soldiers overseas and their families Anyone who plans on an oven-roasted or smoked turkey, a succulent ham or a perfect pie this Thanksgiving should do their shopping at one of Lee Memorial Health System’s hospitals (Cape Coral Hospital, Gulf Coast Medical Center, HealthPark Medical Center or Lee Memorial Hospital). That’s because Lee Memorial Health System has teamed up again with Mason’s Bakery and the HoneyBaked Ham Company for a perfectly scrumptious fundraiser to benefit those in the armed services. You can choose eight- or nine-pound spiral hams, roasted or smoked turkey breasts for dinner. Nine-inch pies come in six flavors, including apple, pumpkin, chocolate cream, peanut butter cream, and key lime. An assorted mini dessert box with 30 pieces of desserts will be sold for $20. Fruit basket cakes are $25. Pies are $12 each and meats range from $25 to $60. A portion of each sale will be donated to the Military Support Fund. You can also have an order form mailed, faxed, or emailed to you by calling (239) 343-9690. Now for the fine print: · Deadline to place your order is Monday, Nov 15. Checks and order forms must be received by then. · Checks or money orders should be made payable to, “Military Support of Lee Memorial Health System.” · Orders must be picked up on either Monday or Tuesday depending on which campus you have marked.
