Get fit; feed the hungry! February 11, 2011

Transformation Challenge

To benefit St. Matthew’s House Food Pantry

If motivation is the factor needed to get Lee and Collier county residents on their way to losing weight and getting fit, then the Transformation Challenge, created by Florida Fitness Coaches, may be the answer. Laurel and Damon Moschetto and their team at Florida Fitness Coaches want to bring good health, good nutrition information, along with a weight loss challenge to help local families this winter. They developed the challenge to benefit contestants, as well as the ever growing number of hungry families in Collier County. Creating awareness of the hunger issue and getting results is their goal.

“Many of us eat to the point of excess without thinking about it, while others struggle to put food on the table,” said Damon Moschetto. “We wanted to do something to help those who are struggling in this difficult economy so we came up with a contest which would benefit everyone. We are encouraging people to lose pounds so others can eat. It’s a get fit and feed the community challenge.”

Florida Fitness Coaches has been serving the Naples area since 2006. The Naples-based company focuses on relationships with its members by providing personal attention and fitness coaching for results. In keeping with their mission and their passion for good health, they have created an area-wide contest to motivate and deliver results to those competing.

The Transformation Challenge will begin Tuesday, March 1st and run for 8 consecutive weeks. This challenge will benefit the food pantry at St. Matthew’s House. The challenge will focus on results – for every pound a contestant loses, St. Matthew’s food pantry will gain a pound of food. It is a pound for pound contest.  The challenge will be limited to the first 50 people who register and for every pound lost during the eight week period, the Florida Fitness Coaches will donate a pound of food to St. Matthew’s House. The challenge is open to the public and you need not be a member of Florida Fitness to participate.

“We collected food for St. Matthew’s in November and when we delivered it we were overwhelmed at the need.  As of November 2010, the unemployment rate in Lee County was 13.3% and Collier County was 12.4%, according to local news sources. This means a lot of families are struggling to buy food for their families. We knew we wanted to help and thought what would be better than to get the community involved in getting healthy, losing weight and helping those in need all at the same time – this contest could mean hundreds of pounds of food for the hungry, “ said Damon.

To be part of the challenge, the public is invited to contact Florida Fitness Coaches to register. A fee of $39 per person will be used for materials, prizes and awards. A kick-off party will be held on March 1st also and will include a free seminar on nutrition, exercise tips, prizes and more. Contestants will also receive free on-line access to a nutrition/calorie tracking program that can be used to monitor success.

“Contestants may also purchase and utilize a nutrition coaching program called Maximize Your Metabolism during the challenge or at anytime to see faster results, the goal is for everyone to have success during and after this challenge,” said Damon.

At the end of the eight weeks, a winner will be named for the most percentage of weight loss and will win a grand prize of $1,000.  Second place will be a $250 Hyatt Regency gift card and third place will be a basket of vitamins, meal replacement bars and other nutritional supplements valued at $150.

During the contest, contestants will receive weekly tips for good health, weight loss and will have tools available to them for tracking their own progress.

Sponsors for the challenge are B. Franklin Jewelers, Eye Consultants of Bonita Springs, Florida Fitness Coaches and ncolor{salon + boutique2}. All of the sponsors encourage area residents who may not want to compete in this challenge to still get involved by dropping off non-perishable food items to the Florida Fitness Coaches location during the eight week period. The total number pounds of food will also be matched pound for pound during this challenge. To make every pound count is the goal of this challenge, whether by weight loss or by the number of pounds of non-perishable food items dropped off — it will all contribute to feeding the hungry.

To enter the challenge, please call 239-596-6200 or stop by Florida Fitness Coaches at 15495 Tamiami Trail North, unit 104 in the Shoppes at Audubon. You may also email info@floridafitnesscoaches.com for more information.

Every 25 minutes someone in a Collier County hospital receives blood.  This year alone, as many as five million patients will require blood transfusions, as accident victims, people undergoing surgery, and patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer and other diseases. Call the Community Blood Center at 239-436-5455 or visit www.givebloodcbc.org for more information.

The Community Blood Center, headquartered in Naples, is a hospital based, not-for-profit blood center that has served the community for nearly 60 years. Furthermore, it has an office in Bonita Springs. Since the Community Blood Center is the primary supplier of blood products to every hospital in Collier County, all blood products that it collects remain within the community to help local patients.
