Shelter Honors Volunteers by Hosting Apple Pie Day at Options Thrift Shoppe April 12, 2011

 

Join The Shelter for Abused Women & Children for the eighth annual Apple Pie Day, a birthday celebration commemorating the generosity of the late Jack and Lue Harris, at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, at Options Thrift Shoppe, 968 Second Avenue North, Naples.

 

Apple Pie Day honors Jack and Lue Harris’ countless volunteer efforts with The Shelter, as well as their generous gift that allowed the nonprofit domestic violence center to purchase the Options building.

 

This year’s celebration takes place at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 25th at the resale store and includes remarks by Options Store Manager Lissette Garcia, as well as free apple pie for customers, while supplies last.

 

Options Thrift Shoppe is owned and operated by The Shelter for Abused Women & Children. Proceeds benefit The Shelter’s life-transforming programs and services while offering program participants the ability to shop using free gift vouchers for the items needed to rebuild their lives.

 

Open Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Options is located at 968 Second Avenue North in Naples. To arrange for free pick-up of furniture donations, please call the Options Manager at 239.434.7115.

Naples, FL – 11/15/10- Make it a merry holiday season – donate new, non-violent toys and gift items to The Shelter for Abused Women & Children for program participants of all ages.

 

“Through community support, The Shelter can help ensure a safe, peaceful and joyful holiday season for hundreds of children, women, men and their pets,” Volunteer & Resource Coordinator Rebecca Grabau.

Needed for the holidays are new gift items:
  • Non-violent toys, games and batteries
  • Dolls (all ethnicities)
  • Non-violent CDs and DVDs
  • Non-violent video games
  • Non-violent books for adults and children
  • Baseballs, basketballs, soccer balls, etc.
  • Sports equipment
  • Roller skates/blades
  • Skate boards
  • Portable CD players, MP3 players
  • Adult clothing (all sizes)
  • Children’s clothing (all sizes – especially teen boys)
  • Shoes (boys, girls, men, women)
  • Purses and wallets
  • Gift sets – bath & body scrubs, lotions, etc.
  • Make-up sets
  • Hair brushes, hair dryers and accessories
  • PJs for adults and children (all sizes)
  • Slippers for adults and children
  • Gift cards to Target, Payless Shoes, Walmart, Coastland Center Mall, etc.
  • Phone cards and gasoline cards

Additionally, food items for Thanksgiving are needed.

Grabau concludes, “Together we can bring peace and joy into homes across our community.”

The Brookdale Elder Abuse Response Program Advocate for The Shelter for Abused Women & Children, representatives from the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence and other elder abuse experts.

WHAT:

No Wrong Door: Serving Survivors of Domestic Violence

- a free training for victim advocates, law enforcement, adult protective service staff, senior service providers, healthcare workers and disability service providers.

Participants learn to identify victims of elder abuse and ensure that whatever door in the community the senior victim enters, she or he will receive help
