The LMHS Military Support Program provides support to the troops year-round and relies on community involvement to meet the needs. 

Visit http://www.leememorial.org/jobs/job_military_support.asp for on-going fundraisers and to view items needed for care packages.  The Military Support Program is currently collecting items for Christmas care packages to ship to deployed troops in early December.

 

VETERANS DAY USO SHOW AT THE NAPLES DEPOT October 29, 2009

 A USO Show at the Naples Depot will delight residents and visitors on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. 

            This is the fourth annual USO Show hosted by Collier County Museums and will feature cover performers featuring the sounds of the Andrew Sisters, Marlene Dietrich and Judy Garland.  The Master of Ceremonies is Dave Elliott a talk show host from WGUF Radio.

When:             Wednesday, November 11

                        12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Where:                        Naples Depot Museum

                        1051 Fifth Avenue South

Free Event:     Limited seating so we encourage you to bring your own lawn chair

During World War II, soldiers were trained to become pilots at the Airfield on Airport Road, now known as the Naples Airport.  On Saturday nights, soldiers were bused into the Naples Depot for a USO show, and the Naples Depot celebration in today’s time pays tribute to this historical activity. 

            Celebrity Sighting – You may recognize the name Peter Thomas, who will act as a special guest master of ceremonies.  Thomas is a local and national celebrity famous for his voiceovers with Forensic Files and other television programs.  Thomas will interview soldiers about their experiences with WW II. 

            This is a free event, and refreshments will be available.

            The USO Show at the Naples Depot follows the Veterans Day Celebration at Cambier Park hosted by the Veterans Council of Collier County.  The prelude begins at 10:15 a.m. and the formal ceremony begins at 10:40 a.m.  For information, the media should contact Jim Elson for this event at (239) 860-0009.
