Muscular Dystrophy Association to Hold Monster Stride Walk at Lakes Regional Park, Saturday, October 30

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will hold its annual Monster Stride Walk at Lakes Regional Park on Saturday, October 30.  Walkers, as well as those using wheelchairs and scooters, are encouraged to participate to raise funds for MDA families in Southwest Florida.

The event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with activities & registration under Pavilion D1 near the water playground.  The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. with an awards ceremony to follow.

Participants are asked to try to raise $150, which would fund 2 minutes of research. Some ways to collect donations include:

 Ask friends and family members
 Send an online Web link to e-mail contacts and Facebook friends asking for donations
 Holding a pot luck lunch at your workplace and encourage everyone to bring a dish and a donation
 Ask organizations you are a part of to help with fundraising by holding car washes or bake sales

“We are so excited that lakes Regional Park has graciously offered to host for the second year the Monster Stride event,” said Kelley McMicken, the MDA’s Stride Guide. “It promises to be an incredibly uplifting, inspirational event. Even if you haven’t personally been touched by a neuromuscular disease, we strongly encourage you to participate and raise money for this very worthy cause.”

The agency hopes to raise $20,000 at the Walk to provide MDA families in Southwest Florida with services, such as clinic visits and repairing equipment, along with providing research to help find cures for the 43 neuromuscular diseases that fall under the MDA umbrella.

To register to walk or for more information about the event, please contact Kelley McMicken at (237) 437-6900 or kmcmicken@mdausa.org or go online to www.joinmda.org/monsterstride2010
The Monster Stride Walk is sponsored by The Tall Cedars, Lee Memorial Hospital, Movin’ On Mobility, Ocean Conversions, and FOX 4.

About the Muscular Dystrophy Association
MDA helps children and adults who are affected by 43 neuromuscular diseases, including ALS (AKA Lou Gehrig’s Disease), covered by MDA’s comprehensive medical services and research programs. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association. Individual private contributors fund the MDA’s programs almost entirely. All money raised will remain local and help families living here in Southwest Florida.
