Each New Year brings with it a challenge to replenish blood supplies that dip during the holidays. So, it is not surprising that certain types are low in the local supply. In effort to inspire donors to give this month, National Volunteer Blood Donor Month, the Community Blood Center is offering its visitors the opportunity to register to win prize drawings of an Apple iPad and a 10 person cruise package compliments of Cruise Naples. Prizes will be drawn on Feb. 4 and winners will be notified! Additionally, people who successfully donate blood at either of its fixed site centers in Naples and Bonita Springs or at any blood mobile blood drive site will receive a $10 Cruise Naples gift card and other special donor gifts.
Since 1970, January has been recognized as National Blood Donor Month (NVBDM). The Community Blood Center has joined with AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) to stress the importance of donating blood and get donors mobilized to help boost local supplies. The need for blood is constant, and volunteer blood donors contribute to nearly all the blood used for patient care in the United States. Every person depends on blood. Each day, patients across the country receive approximately 39,000 units of this lifesaving resource. Every 25 minutes someone in a Collier County hospital receives blood. This year alone, as many as five million patients will require blood transfusions, as accident victims, people undergoing surgery, and patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer and other diseases. Call the Community Blood Center at 239-436-5455 or visit http://www.givebloodcbc.org for more information.
The Community Blood Center, headquartered in Naples, is a hospital based, not-for-profit blood center that has served the community for nearly 60 years.
