What’s old is new as Cinderella’s Closet opens its doors for a one day only sale on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fairy Godmothers have filled the Closet with new and gently used upscale and designer clothing and accessories.  A storefront in the Collections at Vanderbilt will be transformed into a chic boutique for this special event. All proceeds will benefit two organizations that are dedicated to strong, healthy and safe children – YMCA of the Palms and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collier County. From the perfect little black dress to the Louis Vuitton bag, there’s no telling what shoppers will find in Cinderella’s Closet.

To get a sneak peek into Cinderella’s Closet, there will be a special VIP Private Shopping Event on Tuesday evening, March 23. This event will include cocktails, appetizers and entertainment with a magical silent auction. Tickets for the VIP event are $50 per person.

According to Lori Fowler, Director of Development at the Y, “The YMCA of the Palms is delighted to collaborate with the Children’s Advocacy Center for Cinderella’s Closet. Both organizations work every day to strengthen our children and ensure their safety. There is no greater cause than serving the children of our community.”

There is still time to be a part of this exciting event. Cinderella’s Closet is still accepting new and gently used upscale clothing, bags, accessories and shoes.  Please contact Trent Ryan at 239.598.5243 right away for more information about Cinderella’s Closest or visit our website at www.ymcapalms.org/cinderellas-closet.html.

A high school senior in Missouri didn’t have to worry about any other girls wearing the same dress to prom. That’s because Aimee Kick decided to make her dress from coffee filters. According to the Francis Howell School District’s website, Aimee was inspired by her love for coffee and her desire to do something creative. After realizing that vegetables or tea bags would prevent her from dancing, the Francis Howell North High School student settled on coffee filters. The dress took a month to make, with Aimee spending as much as six hours a day working on the outfit. Aimee explains, quote, “I am very inspired to use different materials, so it was more of a stimulating challenge than a difficulty.”

An Ohio high school student has been suspended from school after attending another school’s prom. According to “The Courier,” Tyler Frost was suspended from Heritage Christian for attending Findlay High School’s prom. Frost, whose girlfriend attends Findlay, chose to attend the event despite warnings that he would be in violation of Heritage Christian’s rules on hand holding, rock music and dancing. He will now receive an “incomplete” on all his remaining assignments and will be banned from all graduation ceremonies. He will, however, receive his diploma after completing his final exams. The 17-year-old’s father plans to file a lawsuit against Heritage Christian claiming that the punishment is unfair. In the meantime, Frost will get to appear on CBS’ “The Early Show” this morning to tell his side of the story. He has also been asked to appear on “Inside Edition” and ABC’s “Primetime.” When asked about his evening at the prom, Frost said, quote, “It was great.”
